Frequently Asked Questions About Dryer Vent Cleaning

Why is dryer vent cleaning so important?
Annual dryer vent cleaning will reduce the amount of time it takes to dry a load. A dryer with a blocked vent can take 3 to 4 times as long to dry costing upwards of $3.00 per load compared to $.75. If your dryer is unable to let the hot air escape properly it will produce an unsafe amount of heat. This becomes a huge fire risk.

I clean my dryer lint trap, is it necessary to have the whole dryer vent cleaned?
Even is you clean the lint screen out after each load of laundry, about 40% of your laundry’s lint makes if past the screen. After about a year of regular laundry drying, your dryer lint vents can accumulated enough lint to lower the performance of your clothes dryer while creating fire hazard. With over 15,000 home fires each year cause from dryer lint, a regular dryer vent cleaning is cheap insurance and offers your peace of mind.

My home is only a few years old, when should I have my clothes dryer vent cleaned?
To be on the safe side, we recommend having your dryer vents inspected and cleaned twice a year. We have seen brand new homes that because of poor routing of the dryer vent flex pipe leading to the main vent caused a premature buildup of lint. A quick inspection, even on a newer home is always a good idea.

What are symptoms of a clogged dryer vent?
Often the first sign that your clothes dryer vents need to be cleaned is when your clothes start to require more drying time than before. Another sign is that your laundry room may feel hotter and your dryer is hot to the touch.

Before & After Dryer Vent Cleaning

What type of dryer vent transition tube do you recommend?
We recommend an aluminum corrugated transition if possible.  If you look in your owners manual for your dryer you will see this same recommendation. Most of the time this type can and should be installed.  The foil flex type transition should only be used if the corrugated transition is not an option.

How long does the cleaning take?
Most vents can be cleaned in less than an hour.  Excessive lint buildup and the presence of unexpected blockages can take additional time.

How often should I clean my vent?
Most Dryer Vents should be cleaned at least once a year, ideally twice a year. Some dryer ducts need more attention. Some Determining factors include.

  • How many people are using the same dryer?
  • Is the dryer more than ten years old?
  • Is your dryer vent more than ten feet long?
  • Does your dryer vent have more than one 90 degree turn?

I am planning on purchasing a brand new washer and dryer, should I still have my dryer vent cleaned?
Although part our vent cleaning service cleans your dryer, the main area we clean in the main dryer vent.  Just installing a new dryer won’t address the main area of concern. Having your dryer vent cleaned will allow your new clothes dryer function at 100% of its efficiency.
